Before every ride we recommend you do some basic checks of your bike. This is often called an M check because as you move around the bike from back to front it forms the shape of an M.
Here is a short video showing you how to do one.
- Check the rear wheel is secure.
- Check for loose spokes and check rear tyre wear and inflation
- Moving up to the top of the M, give the saddle a wobble and check it is tight and the seat post clamp is done up too
- Check the chain is clean and lubed.
- Check the pedals and cranks are tight and rotate freely
- Check the handlebars are tight and the brakes work front and rear
- Repeat the rear wheel check on the front

In summary, cyclists should conduct a regular M check to prioritize safety, extend the lifespan of their bikes, optimize performance, and cultivate a sense of responsibility toward their equipment. Regular maintenance not only enhances the rider’s experience but also contributes to a safer and more sustainable cycling community.
